Behold a Belle’s Business
One student at Bennett refuses to waste time starting her own business.
Eniola Olusanya a senior political science major came up with an idea that started off as a joke, but has now led to the beginning of her success story.
“I have always had a love for fashion, whether it had to do with clothes, makeup or hair, I knew how to do it all, ”says Olusanya.
So, Olusanya and one her friends a former Belle, Lavonda Davis started a beauty company called “In the Eye of the Beholder EL.”
“There are many events throughout the school year such as Ebony Soul Week, Morehouse and A&T homecoming when students want to look their best. That is where I come in,” says Olusanya.
The two belles say the company motto is beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
“We promote beauty and self confidence to all girls,” says Davis.
Olusanya says the beauty world was only a hobby to her.
“Since I was a freshwoman at Bennett, I would always do hair, and makeup for my friends for free. My friends would always tell me to charge, but I never saw the need. As a political science major I never saw fashion or beauty in my future. Being a lawyer was what my parents wanted but not so much me,” says Olusanya.
She says that hobby changed into a career after she visited California and met a celebrity stylist.
“On my trip I met celebrity stylist Tameka Raymond who is the ex-wife of R&B singer Usher Raymond. I told her my love for fashion, and she gave me some tips that have led me to where I am today.”
Olusanya says the stylist told her to stop doing things for free, start a website, and start to get her name/brand out to the public.
Olusanya says once she got back to Greensboro she got to work on what would be become “In the Eye of the Beholder EL.” She contacted her close friend, Lavonda Davis who graduated from Bennett College with a business degree. She brought Davis in because of her knowledge of the business world.
The company’s website says it makes dreams come true by catering to flawless unique faces, fashion forward designs, and diamond studded events.
