All-Star Belles Recognized
Bennett College honored top performing Bennett Belles at the annual Recognition Day. It took place April 19. The ceremony celebrates students for being top performers in their class and citizens of the college. Wanda Mobley, the director of public relations says there are over 50 categories for awards this year. Students from all departments and classifications received honors.
“I was an outstanding student in the Mass Communications department before I graduated. I took it as an honor and privilege to be considered for such a great honor out of all my other peers,” says Brittany Wilson, 2008 Bennett College graduate.
Departments nominate and select students to receive the various awards like: most outstanding student, best student from each major, and most improved student of the year. Students who are selected into honor societies based on their G.P.A. are also recognized.
“Last year I was honored to become a member of Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society. Not only did I have an induction ceremony, but I was also recognized for my accomplishments in the 2010 Recognition Day. I was excited that everyone could see. My hard work paid off,” says Yasmin Bowens, senior English major.
Students received awards in academics and extracurricular activities. During the ceremony each department chairperson presented awards to their students.
“I have recently been accepted in to Iota Iota Iota Women’s Honor Society. I am very excited about being recognized for my hard work. As a senior this is my last Recognition Day and I am glad I can be a part of it,” says Tania Christopher, senior Theater Major.
This years Recognition Day took place April 19 at 11:00 a.m. in the Annie Merner Pfeiffer Chapel.
